Altos de Chavon

The biggest attraction in Casa de Campo is Altos de Chavón, a re-creation of a medieval European village that overlooks Rio Chavón. The village was designed by Dominican architect Jose Antonio Caro, and created by Italian master designer and cinematographer Roberto Coppa. Dominican artisans handcrafted the stone pathways, decorative ironwork, furniture and buildings. Several good Mediterranean-style restaurants, a number of quaint shops featuring the diverse craftwork of local artisans, and three galleries exhibiting the talents of students from the on-site design school (La Escuela de Diseño, an affiliate of Parsons School of Design in New York City) are situated along the narrow, cobble-covered alleyways lined with lanterns and shuttered limestone walls. Altos de Chavon is a short 5 minutes drive from Casa de Campo. Daily roundtrip shuttle service is provided free of charge from the Hotel lobby. Taxis are also available for an additional fee.

The Marina

We highly recommend a trip to La Marina, which is accessible by golf cart or via hotel shuttle. La Marina is a modern marina which accommodates some of the world’s largest luxury yachts (up to 250 feet!). In addition to the yachts and the view of the Caribbean, guests can stroll through the main village, which was designed to resemble an old Mediterranean-style seaside village. The interior square at La Marina, known as Calle Barlovento, includes shops, restaurants, pizzerias, ice-cream shops, cafes and a movie theater which plays English-language films.
